School: X248 Overview: Met with the principal, and the technology/ computer teacher in the building. The school is currently situated in portables. They had many issues with the Internet in the beginning of the year. Last year they had a mobile cart, however few laptops were stolen. Due to that theft, the principal had decided to create a computer lab. She has also hired a full time computer lab person. The computer lab is definitely beig utilized, the laptop cart does not. One of the hurdles of using the laptop cart is the fact that it need to be rolled in and out the portables. The computer teacher has a PC basic curriculum for the 9th graders who come to the lab on a regular basis. In addition, he has a music club/technology. He also teaches business/technology and students use variety of applications and perform research for their own created businesses. He also started to collaborate with the Social Studies teacher. I had showed the principal our site. I explored Protraxx with her and she had registered in Protraxx. She is interested in onsite PD – small staff, it will be hard to send people out. She is interested in small chunks of PD for a number of people. Since she communicates via email with her staff she would like to bring everyone up to speed. She is interested in OWA and Excel basic for her staff. Tentative dates are Friday March 07 or the 14th. Friday is the best day for them.

Location: East Bronx Academy of the Future Overview: The school is about 4 years old in a very nice, up-dated building. It is Technology-Focused. There are laptop carts, smart boards, LCD projector in every class, printers etc. Teachers vary in ages. Some like technology some are still afraid of it. Some use it in the classroom some don’t. They have a tech person that comes in the after-noon. They sometimes have problems with the Internet, one happened today where the whole communication in the office went down. The school is 4 floors. The lower floors host the middle school and the upper floors host the high school. Teaching matters work with some teachers in the school, helping them integrate technology into the curriculum. I have explained Protraxx and our services to the librarian, tech person.

Goal One: OIT services and Protraxx
Goal Two: possible onsite PD
Next Steps:
(Follow-up Procedures): I will follow up via emails with the principal regarding possible onsite PD’s on Wednesday during their Adult Learning Time. She was not available during my visit. I briefly spoke to the assistant principal, who suggested emailing her possible onsite PD opportunities.
